Our 25th Year - It's Not Our Fault

OUTSIDE:

BHJ MOVES OUTSIDE FOR THE MONTH

This definitely is the smallest issue of my tenure as Editor - perhaps the smallest Prost in Malts' history ... oh well - there's gotta be a first time for everything.

KUDOS to Pat for hosting another good Pale Ale Bout last month & to the "homey" brewers who did a pretty good job of smacking an assortment of Oregon commercial brews; but a KABONG to your editor for misplacing the results - with luck, he'll find them in time for the gargantuan holiday issue.

I've noticed something interesting on the import scene - the "big boys" are sharing the wealth & bringing the brewmaking closer to the big market in the USA. FBG Breweries (Labatt's parent?) in Canada now brews the popular Foster's line; A-B in LA now makes Kirin Ichiban - both labels say "brewed under the supervision of ...". I suspect there are reciprocal agreements involved, given the never-ending spate of corporate mergers in the brewing world.

Stern Grove is late this year, but not Thanxgiving weekend, so sign up for a job if you're not penciled in already & will be around - we always need stewards, plus kitchen, & set-up/clean-up help. Judge invite letters should be out, & the appli-cation also should be up on our web site. We also need a volunteer to host the Xmas party - pick a day: December 1, 6-8, or 13-15. I won't be around Dec 6-8, as I'm flying to Phoenix to hang with an old college roomie & his wife & play a few sess-ions of bridge in the National tournament - if you pick one of those days, someone else will have to do the goose.

If you live close to a BevMo - shop online in October & get 10% off. A case of SNPA drops from $19.99 to $17.99, a buck cheaper than COSTCO's current price. I've used the service a couple of times - takes 1-2 hours for the order to be ready, possibly longer on a busy weekend, but they give you a pick-up time. Site is user-friendly - www.bevmo.com.

Next month, hopefully, El Presidente, who's been busy traveling & working a new contract computer geek job, will have a host of stories to fill out a fat holiday issue, which will be the last of 2002. In the meantime ...
